Pre-Surgical Testing

Serving the Community for more than a decade, Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center’s state-of-the-art pre-surgical testing department has moved to 15 Park Ave in Bay Shore. The Bay Shore facility offers patients the convenience of having all tests required before surgery completed quickly and in one location. Pre-surgical provides accommodating hours, convenient parking and a helpful staff of registered nurses, physicians assistants, laboratory personnel and technicians.

Preoperative testing appointments are scheduled when a patient is booked for surgery in the operating room or if the patient is a special procedure patient undergoing cardiac catheterizations, radiology procedures or another specialty.

Patients must bring:

  • Insurance information
  • Medication list
  • Picture ID
  • Paperwork from their physician

Patients are not requested to fast unless specifically directed to do so by their physician.

Patients Undergoing Pre-surgical Testing:

  • Are assessed by a Registered Nurse
  • Have their lab work, EKG, chest X-rays or other tests as required by their physician
  • Are often seen by a physician assistant for a physical and history report
  • Are completed in approximately two and a half hours

Patients are usually seen up to 14 days before their scheduled procedures, but most are seen within 7 days of their procedures.

A nurse from Care Management is available to address any discharge issues for special procedures, such as joint replacement.
