Education and Support 2nd Floor (631) 376-3736 The Breast Health Center at Good Samaritan was created in response to community concerns. There was a need for a comprehensive patient-focused program of early detection and diagnosis, positive reinforcement through counseling and support and effective treatment utilizing the latest, state-of-the-art equipment in this battle against breast disease. The Breast Health Center's staff is committed to a very personal and concerned approach for those who turn to us for help. This area continually utilizes the medical and technological resources available within the Medical Center to promote and encourage the most effective treatment for our patients. Educational opportunities, health fairs and community programs all help to promote the philosophy that early detection is the key in the fight against this disease. In the Breast Health Center women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer can overcome their fears and work through their concerns, assisted by a talented, experienced staff who will reach out in positive, reassuring ways. Counseling, Support and After Care Good Samaritan offers a wide array of counseling and support services, both for patients and their families. The beautiful conference room at the Center is a focal point for effective group and individual counseling and support programs. In addition to the groups offered to the breast cancer patient, we also offer support for patients, family and friends dealing with any diagnosis of cancer. All of our support groups meet regularly and are run by trained, skilled facilitators. They offer a safe, confidential atmosphere to express fears and concerns and encourage a positive, supportive attitude. Look Good . . . Feel Better Classes are sponsored by the Cosmetic and Fragrance Association in cooperation with the American Cancer Society to give women under treatment the self-confidence, the poise and the inner strength to cope with this disease. Personalized Support by a Registered NurseThe nurses of the Breast Health Center are a source of comfort and information for the patient. During procedures a nurse stays by the woman's side to explain the process. When there is a diagnosis of cancer, the nurse accompanies the patient to surgery and is always available to educate, answer her questions and alleviate her anxiety. Boutique Through an exclusive arrangement with Personal Touch II Boutique, a wide range of bras, prostheses, turbans, fragrances and small gifts are available within the Breast Health Center. Private dressing rooms allow for personalized fittings.
