Support groups are formed to provide emotional and moral support for those experiencing a common situation. For those stricken with an illness, support groups offer a safe haven where a patient and/or family can go to overcome some of the psychological trauma that accompanies a diagnosis. The individual can look to others in the same situation to share concerns, realize they are not alone and find comfort in the fact that others have the same feelings and fears as their own. Group leaders facilitate an environment of concern for those seeking assistance. Various groups meet on topics including caner, parenting, diabetes and other disease entities.
