Endocrinology is the subspecialty of Internal Medicine that evaluates and treats disorder of the endocrine (hormone-producing) glands. An endocrinologist's expertise is in the area of diseases of these glands. The Endocrinology Department at Good Samaritan provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and therapy to patients with endocrine diseases. Patients are treated for a wide variety of endocrine and metabolic disorders including reproduction, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and paraneoplastic diseases, as well as diabetes, hyperlipidemia and endocrine induced hypertension. The department of endocrinology recognizes each patient as an individual, tailoring the program of treatment to fit the needs and capacities of the patient.

Endocrinologists work closely with other subspecialties such as endocrine surgeons, pediatric and reproductive endocrinologists, as well as radiologists to offer comprehensive treatment.

When necessary, surgery is performed for the treatment of pituitary tumors, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism.

Pediatric Endocrinology

Children with endocrine diseases can have growth disturbances, failure to thrive, excessive thirst or urination, generalized weakness or abnormal sexual development. These symptoms can be discussed with the child's pediatrician to determine if a referral to a pediatric endocrinologist is appropriate.
