Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine strives to meet the health care needs of the community and encompasses the treatment of patients of all ages, integrating clinical and behavioral practice. In the event of emergency or trauma, physicians are available at all times and are ready to render their unique services to patient community.

Family physicians specialize in caring for the physical, mental and emotional well being of patients and their families. As the gatekeeper and spearhead of the medical profession for the individual patient, the family physician's importance is paramount. It is the family physician that maintains and analyzes each patient's health history, physical condition and medical requirements. The family physician identifies and treats a patient's needs, and when necessary counsel and refers them to specialists where appropriate.

Annual examinations, combined with early diagnosis and treatment, is the key to successfully treating any patient. Many disorders from simple to complex exhibit similar symptoms, and many times these symptoms are ignored as being unimportant. Proper patient testing and referral to a specialist, when necessary, eliminates the uncertainty of symptoms and provides an accurate and timely diagnosis. Should a serious condition exist, early treatment and referral to a specialist can lead to a faster and more successful attempt at recovery.
